A political scientist by training, her research focuses on the intersection between European Studies, Middle East Studies, Democratization Studies and Peace & Conflict Studies.
As the Danish Lead partner of the Horizon Europe project SHAPEDEM-EU (2022-2025), Michelle was responsible for the conceptual framework of this project which focused on visions on the practice of democracy, democracy learning loops and communities of practice. Michelle is also Associate Fellow at Chatham House’s Europe Program. She has published widely on the EU and Palestine/Israel, including her co-authored publications for the Arab Reform Initiative (June 2025) and for the Istituto Affari Internazionali (IAI, July 2025).
Michelle is an active member of the editorial board of the journal Mediterranean Politics as well as a Member of the Scientific Advisory Board, Centre for Advanced Middle Eastern Studies, Lund University (Sweden) and a Non-Resident Member, Middle East Studies Forum Deakin University (Australia).
